Autism Genetics Online Survey 

A research study exploring experiences and perspectives on genetic testing for autism, including children and adults, and physicians.

About Autism Genetics Online Survey 

We are enrolling both children and adults diagnosed with autism, as well as physicians who provide care to individuals on the autism spectrum who reside in Alberta. The study, led by Dr. Daniel Moreno De Luca at the University of Alberta, aims to understand the experiences and perspectives of individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, and physicians regarding genetic testing in autism.

Location: 100% Online (Alberta residents only).

Online survey + Optional virtual interview.

Total Time: Approx. 90 minutes (divided into steps).

Languages: English, Spanish, and French.

Participation Process

Initial Contact 

If you are interested in the study, you can begin by completing our brief online screening form.

 

If you are eligible, you will be prompted to schedule a Zoom meeting to review and sign the consent form. Physicians have the option to review and sign the consent form independently.

 

If you decide to participate, you will complete the electronic informed consent process before beginning the study

1. Introductory Meeting

During this Zoom meeting, we will explain the study, review the steps involved, and answer any questions you may have. You may participate using video, audio-only, or chat-only.

 

2. Informed Consent

If you decide to participate, you will review and sign the electronic consent forms to officially enrol in the study.

3. Medical Release 

Autistic adults, or parents/guardians providing consent for a child or family member, will complete a medical release form so that we can contact one of your healthcare providers to confirm the autism diagnosis

 

Language Options

Participation is available in English, French, or Spanish throughout all stages of the study.

Online Survey

  • Takes 20–30 minutes and is completed entirely online

  • Questions about attitudes, perceptions, and experiences related to genetic testing for autism

 

  • You do not need to have undergone genetic testing to participate — we are interested in your perspectives and opinions, both positive and negative

Optional Interview

After completing the survey, you may be invited to participate in a one-on-one interview.

  • Conducted via Zoom, with the option to participate using video, audio-only, or chat-only

 

  • In-depth discussion about your experiences and perspectives on genetic testing for autism

  • Up to 60 minutes
