Clinical Training in ASD & Genomic Psychiatry
Our clinical training program provides interdisciplinary education in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and genomic psychiatry, equipping trainees with practical experience in genetic testing implementation and precision mental health care delivered through our clinical services program
Program Growth and Milestones
Since relocating to Edmonton, Canada, our clinical training program has continued to grow in collaboration with the University of Alberta, Recovery Alberta, and CASA Mental Health, expanding interdisciplinary educational opportunities in autism spectrum disorder and genomic psychiatry. We were honored to welcome Dr. Mona Nematian as the inaugural recipient of the Autism CCF, completing the program in Spring 2024, and we look forward to welcoming future cohor.

What made you choose our clinic during your fellowship?
I chose to rotate in the CADD/PRISMA Clinic during my second year of child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Brown due to my longstanding interest in working with individuals on the autism spectrum. Having grown up with a brother who has autism, this passion began at an early age and continued to evolve throughout my education and training.

I have witnessed firsthand the hope that our expanding knowledge of pharmacology, genetics, and behavioral therapies can offer individuals with autism and their families. The richness of each child, adolescent, and young adult’s unique strengths, challenges, and personality adds both meaning and complexity to this work.

Any advice for upcoming fellows in the clinic?
I would encourage anyone considering a rotation in this clinic to ask questions and take full advantage of the remarkable expertise within the program. I find myself drawing on the lessons I learned here every day in my early career as an attending physician, including in my outpatient clinic at Butler Hospital, where I work with adolescents and young adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.

What is your "thing"?
Outside of work, I enjoy fishing—particularly fly fishing. I appreciate the opportunity to chase trout, striped bass, and other species both locally and in new places.
